Every Tuesday, I tune into The Biggest Loser to watch contestants both male and female spill their heart out at the gym to shed off those extra pounds, but also gain a healthy perspective towards food and their bodies. I watch this show for motivation. I’ve had struggles (several, too many to count) with my own weight, and maintaining my recovery has been so important to me- and maintaining my weight as well, that now I feel I’m in a place where I can focus on other things not related to recovery. For example, making a commitment to fitness.

Last year, I said was going to participate in “Self” magazines, Self Challenge. With the encouragement from Melissa, various posters in the Self forums, and a group dedicated for Challengers on Facebook, I was able to successfully complete Month One. But that’s where it stopped. And this year, I swear if it kills me, I’m going to complete the whole shebang and then some. I’m not kidding. This is MY YEAR. No excuses, just do it.

I’ve decided to put a spin on this year’s Challenge when it comes to fitness. Every week for the duration of the Challenge, I want to create a fitness challenge. The fitness challenge might be do an extra rep of strength exercises, or take up a cardiovascular class at the gym that interests me. The point is to prove to myself that I’m capable of doing anything, and feel good about it during and afterwards.

PS: I fell on ice yesterday, so I need to wait on some strength training.

  1. Yeah, I need to do the Challenge again this year, as well!! We should encourage each other again this time around!

  2. @Mel,

I’m looking forward to this years Challenge. I’ve yet to see on the site or through the magazine what type of program it will be this year, and I also wonder when the new issue will be out. I know there’s the opportunity of starting early this year on Monday, February 9 which I plan on doing. Hopefully this year I can stick to it.
