So Annoying, Yet So Addictive..
I’m quite annoyed by MySpace. And yes, it’s annoying but addictive (I like listening to the so-called “free” music). None of my friends use it. None of them. And the only reason why I even have a profile is Just Because. Not to meet people or for common interest or music tastes. However, MySpace is taking over the world. It’s this idea of having a profile and sharing everything about yourself that is somehow “cool” yet these teenyboppers are getting lured and molested because of it. I just don’t like that idea. Therefore, I’m trying to stay away from it as much as possible. Of course there are privacy settings where a user can prohibit non-friends from viewing their profile, but that’s not even the point. I don’t want a tell all book. I’ll share what I want, and it won’t be on MySpace or another social networking site.
Am I socially retarded about this? Think about it. MySpace has been in the news a lot lately. If everything about it is legit, why is everyone still flocking towards it? If MySpace wants to be safe, shouldn’t there be random screenings? Trace IP addresses. These psycho, fifty-five year old perverts with five children and a sixth on the way, browsing the gallery of people for that “it” fourteen year old girl, the virgin… who falls for a sugar daddy, or an older man… who claims he loves her, and BOOM- sexual predators everywhere. In places you wouldn’t expect.
Does anyone agree, or see where I’m coming from? Honey, please.

The best networking site is Facebook. It’s actually very useful in college. Other than that, I don’t get into the whole MySpace thing. I have one so I can see other people’s MySpaces occasionally. I log in about three times a year.
@Kimmie,
Facebook and MySpace are the same. Really, in truth.
Facebook does not really let you blog though. And Facebook originally was designed for college students only, limiting the network. That also prevents sexual predators.
@Kimmie,
Yeah, MySpace and Friendster allow users to create their own weblog, but there’s services for that. I can see that if these sites implement their own weblog hosting it would eliminate those going elsewhere for that simple feature. However, I’m more concerned with the principle behind social networking. It doesn’t matter what kind of feature it is. Geared towards college students or not. That doesn’t change my stance on the issue.
Last night I was at a gig, there were so many people asking for my MySpace. I remember when we used to exchange phone numbers and emails.
@Tingle,
It’s almost as if “can I have your MySpace” has replace the “can I have your number”. I’m thinking that people now a day would rather connect with someone via the Internet instead of calling them. It’s kind of sad. And I like my ringtone to boot.
That’s why I deleted mine.
I don’t have a MySpace or Friendster account so yeah, I know nuts about them. Facebook.. Now, I don’t quite get the so-called concept behind Facebook either, especially with all the extra applications that makes Facebook more and more like Friendster. And most of my high school friends are either in Friendster or not internet-inclined. And no, Facebook isn’t addictive. Not to me though.
@Pelf,
I Facebook now, but no MySpace. It’s too ugly for my eyes.
Even though I don’t use Myspace I do find it very annoying. My friends try to get me evolved but I refuse. My older sister got in to it and she would be on the computer from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.. Its changed her. Now she doesn’t even wake up till 3:00 p.m if she isn’t woken up in the morning. This is why I hate myspace because it is a time consumer in a wrong way. I mean its not wrong for them to have MySpace but they need to learn how to use it in a responsible way.
