Last night for no reason at all (except to get a chuckle) I decided to post a personal ad on Craigslist. It’s something that I wanted to try just to see if anything interesting or worthy came from it. In the past when I’ve tried personal ads on Match.com (it was a decent site until you had to pay to respond to a potential Mr. Right Now — versus the Mr. Right quality), Yahoo! Personals and most recently a sister site of Match.com called Chemistry.

This is quite amusing. This evening in my GMail inbox (I never even wanted a GMail account, I just wanted to test it out!) there was another (on top of the other twenty something responses I recieved and due to receive more due to the fact I linked my personal ad to my weblog) response. However, the message itself was different. It was titled “hold your hat”. I mean, I wasn’t going to trash it just because there wasn’t a picture attached (even though to me that’s a complete must). I continued to read. Get this. Without her son’s knowing, a mother decided to respond to my ad for her son. Am I getting punk’d? No seriously, this has to be a joke. I mean it’s one thing to try and set your son up with a nice, young woman but it’s another to secretly dish out the dirt on your son to some personal ad. If that was me and I found out, I’d be really mad. All I’d be thinking is “what did you tell her?”. Of course, after a few simple converses I ended discussion with his mother. At least she likes me even though I haven’t met her. It’s a little strange, don’t you think?

That’s just pushing it. Too far.

  1. Welcome to the internet: where men are men, women are men, and children are the police!

  2. @Archie,

It was strange. Just really, really strange. I know it’s the Internet and everything, but at least show some respect for those parties involved. It’s different (very out on a tree branch) for a parent to browse the Internet responding to ads for their kids. At least they are trying to help, but on the other hand it’s too much.
